2011 April Feature is Purse Containers
On the 9th of April, 2011, fellow Garden Club member, Ingrid Velez and myself, Linda Westrich-Heine attended the Purse as Containers demonstration put forth by Patricia and Helen at Annie's Garden Shed in Lutz, FL

You were required to make reservations and put down a deposit and aside from the $9.99 instructional fee, the remainder of your deposit was applied towards your gardening materials supplied by Annie's and used to construct your containers.

Annie's Potting Shed was awash with color, not only in the plants, but also the containers.

My purse containers were thrift store purchases and as Patricia stressed upon...I was prepared to "Let them Go." when the growing season ended and the purses were past their prime after being exposed to the summer elements in Florida. "You have to let them go."

Patricia went through all the various elements, the Thriller, Filler and Spiller plant placements... fertilizing, drainage and how to arrange your plants.

Helen, (lady in teal) was the "hands-on" helper who quipped directions in her British accent and was something of a character in that she gardens while wearing her pearls. Here she is helping Ingrid construct her tote bag containers.

These are Ingrid's finished projects

These were two of my finished Purses as Containers.

My third Purse Container---finished Ingrid with her finished Totes

On the whole....Ingrid and I had a marvelous time and I think we are going back in May to do the Apple Basket Container Garden. Sounds like fun to me and adds a different dimension to how you think about organizing a garden.
