FFGC Coral Reef

In the world of conservation, one of the primary goals is the improvement and protection of our oceans and waterways. In the State of Florida, completely surrounded by coastline and with the Atlantic Ocean at our door, it is prudent for all of us to make sure that our shoreline and our beaches and our reefs and fishing capacity remain healthy and available for everyone.
As  reef conditions diminish worldwide, one of the leaders in coral restoration, Ken Nedimyer, has begun a fledgling project to propagate coral reefs.
The Coral  Restoration Foundation located in Key Largo is a Not for Profit organization dedicated to the transplanting of coral from underwater nurseries where the corals are grown by cutting fragments from existing healthy corals.
The fragments grow to sizes that are then taken and planted to restore dying and degraded reefs. When these reefs grow , they will provide a habitat for all sorts of marine life including tropical fish.
Members of FFGC will be able to "financially " adopt a coral to be planted on the FFGC Reef and be a part of hopefully reversing the endangered status of the elkhorn and staghorn coral.

The immediate goal is for FFGC to raise $10,000. Each planting will cost $100 and FFGC will  collect the funds to be  presented  to the Foundation. Please send your donations to:
Gina Jogan, FFGC Treasurer 6735 Highway 99, Molino 32577-4048.
Be sure and note that your donation is for Coral Garden.

BGC Supports Operation Heartfelt

Each week, members of the Brooksville Garden Club volunteer to help pack food supplies into backpacks for Operation HeartFELT (Feeding Empty Little Tummies), a Hernando-based non profit homeless advocacy group that provides backpacks filled with food to students in need. In addition to their volunteers service, during monthly garden club meetings members collect food and cash to benefit HeartFELT. Peggy Pope, the club's Team of Volunteers coordinator, and other club volunteers recently displayed the latest donations, including receiving from BGC membership a check for $100.00
